We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.
But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.
— Mother Teresa
I like this quote but I have a hard time accepting the meaning. I know that one person can make a difference in life, especially on a small scale. But one drop when we’re talking about the vastness of the ocean, hardly seems like it could make a difference. What am I missing?

Think it relates to people using the “But I’m just one person, what’s the point?” mentality. One drop isn’t much, but if *everyone* took that view, it’d soon add up. In the grand scheme of things, I am just one person and can’t make a lot of difference on my own, but if there’s a lot of us “just one persons” it all adds up.
I have a cold, so not sure my bunged up head is making much sense
In other words..”No single drop of rain believes it is to be blamed for the flood”…:)
As I see it, if one looks at it as a before and after, it’s not going to necessarily noticeable. But in all reality, whether “noticeable or not”… the ocean would be and/or is “less” because of that missing drop.
I, too, have a cold… so what Dan stated above also applies to me!
Here’s another take on the idea: http://www.theonion.com/content/news/how_bad_for_the_environment_can
Evil is rarely an active force, “I was just following orders” is the most common form.
Take it as absolutley literal. Without that single drop is the ocean less than it was? The answer is, of course “yes”.
a single drop can create ripples.
