That’s exactly how I felt. I hated the system. I hated that the teachers were so strict and did not look at students as individuals. I hated that we were disciplined to follow the Standard; I would always resist, and I remember being caned by the school teacher (yes, we have caning in schools in Malaysia) because I refused to do as I was told; to wear a head scarf on Mufti day.
I’m glad to see someone else who sees the flaws in the system.
Besides the point made here what I highly appreciate of the speaker is that despite being a valedictorian she asks others to not just do what the educational system demands of them, which is as good as acknowledging a no-good achievement and requires lot of heart to accept. I just salute her, and ask others (all over the world) to take notice- every word she speaks is more or less the truth. Pursue passion, and success will follow.
